Sure you could rush right on over to your local merchant and sell them for a hand full of coin, but are you making as much money with them as you can? The quick answer is NO you are not. From the smallest to the largest, there is always something you can do to it for more money. Pelts are valued anywhere from 5 to 75 gold though of course how much money you get from them at the merchant is based on your speech skill.

We would obviously like to get more money than that. Our first step is to go over to the tanner station to turn the pelts into leather. Leather is valued at 10 gold a piece, and this might sound like a loss for any pelt with a value over that, however larger pelts give more leather.

For instance it takes 2 goat hide to even get one leather, but one snow bear pelt will net you 4 bits of leather. Sure I know you can do basic math, and what your saying to me now is that 2 goat hides at 5 gold a piece is the same value as one leather for 10 gold. Worse yet that snow bear pelt valued at 75 gold is worth just a bit more than 40 gold worth of leather. So what was the point of that? Well if we were to stop here and we aren't going to this would make a number of hides and pelts worth a bit more.

Take cow hide for instance, it has a value of 10 per hide, but provides three bits of leather. So I say, just trust me and turn all your hides and pelts into leather it'll be worth it. You can also convert 1 leather into 4 leather strips, but only create as many of those as you need. Over to the forge you can see that leather be it as leather or strips can be used in nearly every bit of gear, but for the sake of this little guide on how to make some money off of leather, we'll assume you don't have access to anything other than leather.

But knowing that everything takes leather, you might want to keep some handy for when you DO have access to those other materials.
