Which megasquirt do i need
If you have already purchased a board, there are several ways you can check if the board is legitimate or not. This is particularly easy before assembly, but can also be done on fully assembled boards. For example, a red colored main board has never been produced by Bowling and Grippo. Other counterfeits are different in more subtle ways. If you are unsure, ask on the forums at www. We will provide detailed instructions here shortly. Note that V3 boards are less likely to be counterfeited than V2.
It is strongly suggested that you purchase the following:. It has a number of features that make upgrades and installations easier. See this link for more information about the V3 main board.
An optional unit that eases installation especially on previously carbureted engines is the relay board. Bruce and Al do not support individuals who produce or sell their own version of the PCB. With the current system, the quality of the boards is assured and the people on the MegaSquirt Forums can answer questions relating to them. In general, such permission is granted only for one or two personal boards which will note be distributed in any form.
Unless noted otherwise, it is always assumed that:. However, it will not tell you absolutely everything you must do. You will have to think some things through for yourself.
This manual assumes you have some basic automotive, computer, and electronics background, or are willing to find, understand, and apply this information yourself. If you do not have such knowledge, you MUST consult a qualified mechanic. It is an experimental fuel injection unit, after all. In order to help the process of gathering knowledge, you need to understand your system thoroughly; something a step-by-step guide for everything is not conducive to.
If you require a 'turn key' EFI solution, one of the commercial controllers might suit your needs better. A great many advanced topics have been left out of this manual, including: the hi-resolution code, the many useful variations of the standard code and hardware, running propane injection, etc.
For information on these and other topics, see the FAQ and the msefi forums. Some Conversion Factors. Where is my engine's setup? Is it emission legal? What do the version numbers mean? How can I find my code version? What is 'tuning'? What about automatic transmissions? How can I find out more? Where can I ask questions? Is there a PDF of the manual?
How do I purchase? Without a doubt though, when you put that effort into your system your results will be incredible and at the same time less expensive than pretty much any other engine management system option available. You want something you can just take out of the box and have it work. Tune it right. Tune it for less. Tune it Yourself. We are open and shipping! From the information provided, would an MS2 do everything I need, or would i be better off with the MS3?
Any advice is appreciated. Ms2 is what I've been using since You can do everything but sequential with it. I'll soon upgrade to ms3x because I'm adding a bunch of outputs.
I mainly want it dir the drag staging feature. You can always upgrade your ms2 to ms3 or ms3x later by replacing the processor. Worrying about whether the distributor in your seized engine is still good and the clean look of COP shows a little bit of unfocus. For the money you're spending on other parts you could consider one of the damper mounted sensors. Probably more dependable, maybe cheaper in the long run.
And a clean look. Looks like you're still early in planning. Ok thanks. I was unaware of being able to upgrade that easily. Should I be worried about the lack of sequential? I'm not too familiar with the specifics of it but I have the feeling it wouldn't be necessary since you're running without it.
Anything else you would recommend when I order it? I haven't found a definite answer as to if the Megasquirt will run the Ford COP's or if I would need additional components to do so. I think im going to attempt the diy kit and spend some free time soldering it. Lack of focus is my middle name. The car is still on the rotisserie and I'm worried about engine management right now for some reason.
All on a MS1 with a V2.
